about

Erin Moriarty

As a child, Erin spent summers milking goats and collecting eggs on on a piece of land in the Hudson Valley.  Sprout Creek Farm was bordered, naturally, by a creek and farmed by tractor-riding nuns teaching empowerment and community building as they rode by.  After these lessons on the farm, Erin went on to receive a Bachelor's degree in Ethnobotany from Vassar College and a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Cornell University.  She has worked as a designer in New York City for over a decade and now finds herself back where it began - in the Hudson Valley.

Prior to creating The New Amity Workshop, Erin worked with RKLA Studio Landscape Architecture in New York City as a designer and project manager.  There, she brought her unique perspective in the fields of anthropology, botany, and landscape architecture to her work.  While at RKLA, Erin lead all levels of project development from schematic design through project management on a diverse range of work including institutional, residential, and rooftop landscapes.

Work

the new amity workshop

The New Amity Workshop is a design studio grounded in the land which is at once precisely organized as an agricultural field and infinitely complex as a forest floor.  The studio's work reflects a clarity of design guided by form and utility.  Designs are expressed through the use of elemental materiality like wood, stone, and metal.  Above all, the studio is influenced by the seasonal rhythms that energize all things cultivated and wild.
